Ubersuggest keyword research tool is one of the best free keyword search tools that I have ever come across. Although the keyword research tool has a paid version. The free version is what I thrive on for my blog posts.
The free keyword search tool was created by digital marketing expert, Neil Patel to provide a more easy way to research for keywords.
Neil believes getting information on keyword analysis should not be hard to come by hence his bold step in acquiring the keyword suggestion tool, Ubersuggest.
Although the Ubersuggest keyword research tool has varied SEO tools; but in this blog post, I will be highlighting the features of the keyword suggestion tool which you as a blogger or website owner can utilize in making your blog and your blogging career a whole success.
Now that you have created your fabulous blog, it’s now time to research for keywords using Ubersuggest keyword research tool.
But wait…Let me first answer some questions about Ubersuggest before I go into detail about using it as a keyword planner for your site
What is Ubersuggest Keyword Research Tool?
Ubersuggest is simply a keyword planner that is used to research keywords that you can sprinkle throughout your blog post or website to improve your website rankings in any search.
For instance, if you are writing about ‘how to make money online’, you can type it in Ubersuggest and words that people search in relation to your topic will be suggested to you.
Through this, you can select words that you can confidently write about and use them in your blog post.
Remember that not researching on keywords is one of the mistakes to avoid before starting a new blog
Not only is Ubersuggest a keyword suggestion tool, but it also has a variety of SEO functions that will help make your blog a haven for Google when it comes to information that you write on your site or blog.
How accurate is Ubersuggest?
Ubersuggest may not be the most accurate keyword research tool, but it sure gets the job done in the best professional way. It provides the monthly search volume of a keyword, cost per click and level of the SEO difficulty. These are the most important features for keyword planning.
Ubersuggest, in my opinion, is about 95% accurate. You should know that it is only Google or other search engine sites that can provide you with accurate keyword suggestion metrics.
Keyword finder tools by Google such as the Search Console, Google Trends, Google keyword planner and any other tool that has Google attached to its name may provide you with the accurate keywords of course for free. But let’s face it, they all look complicated when you open them up.
But Ubersuggest as a keyword search tool has a really simple interface that makes it easier for you to search for keywords without struggling to identify the meaning behind graphs that makes you kind of dizzy.
Where does Ubersuggest get its data?
Ubersuggest uses API to source its data from Google. That is why I said earlier on that, it is only Google that can provide you with the accurate statistics on keywords you may want to use in blog posts or on your website
Now that I may have somehow entered your mind and answered questions about Neil Patel’s keyword tool, it is time for us to learn how to use Ubersuggest to research magic keywords for your blog post.
Let’s learn some key terms you may find on the site to help you understand what you see.
- Keyword. These are words real people type in on search engines to search for information on that word. In this case, your blog topic is the keyword. It could be in a question form or straight to the point search.
- VOL. The number of times that keyword is searched for in a month.
- CPC. The amount that will cost you per click by a visitor on a website that runs your ads should you decide to advertise your keyword via Google Adwords. These are known as paid ads.
- SD. This means SEO Difficulty. What this does is that it tells you how easy you can rank for a Keyword or how the keyword you will be choosing will be hard to rank for. They are color-coded to make you understand the SD easily.
- Filters. You can sift the number of keywords or monthly volume you want to appear to make your search easier.
- Trends. the way the keyword has been searched for over a period of time or its trending pattern over the years in a year.
- PD. PD means paid difficulty. If you intend to advertise with a particular keyword, the PD tells how many advertisers are also competing to buy the same keyword. The higher the number of advertisers purchasing the keyword.
The SEO keyword Overview section in Ubersuggest
When you go to the website and enter your keyword, the general information about the keyword is the first thing that will “assault” your sight and amaze your senses.
This image right here shows the keyword overview for the term “how to make money online“. It has everything that is; the volume of the keyword searched per month to the amount you will pay for advertising the keyword.
It also goes on to tell you how sites that write on this keyword rank per their domain score. That is, how important their site is to Google as well as other websites that link their posts to these top-ranking sites.
Note: Linking to another website in your blog post is known as backlinking.
The keyword overview page on Ubersuggest will provide you with the statistics that may guide you to know which keywords you can use and how easy or difficult it is to rank for keywords you have chosen.
To get all the juicy keyword suggestions and or related keywords, you will want to scroll further down through the overview page and click on the view all keywords to see your list of words you can target.
Pro Tip: use the related keywords section for more keywords you may want to target and write on.
What does the color code in ubersuggest mean?
You will notice that the Ubersuggest has very beautiful colors displayed when you type in your keywords. The colors have their meaning and personally, for me, it makes it easier to understand all the fuss going on around your search.
The color code for distinguishing between easy and difficulty keywords are classified in two that is yellow and green.
Any keyword above 50 is a difficult keyword to rank for therefore the keyword suggestion tool for SEO Difficulty will turn yellow
Again, keywords that have SEO Difficulty below 50 are the ones that are easy to rank for therefore it will show the color green.
In my honest opinion, going for keywords that has an SD above 25 should not be targeted by you as a new blogger.
Pro Tip: Always aim for keywords with SD 25 or lower
Note: Some keywords may show “easy” to rank for but it will be quite important to check the domain score of the sites which is ranking for the keyword. If it is high, then look for other words which is related to the keyword you are searching for.
In this case, you will not want to compete with sites that have established themselves firmly on search engines.
For a more in-depth understanding of the domain score, MOZ has a guide on it. It is worth checking out.
There are plenty of Ubersuggest alternatives that are available for use but most of them are paid. Even though Ubersuggest is now a paid keyword planner tool, the free version offers a lot more than what the other alternatives offer as their free version.
What’s more for as little as $10 per month, you can have access to over a million keywords on Ubersuggest. Amazing right?
PROs of Ubersuggest free research tool
- Unlimited number of searches per month and day as compared to other Keyword research tools
- Up to 10 keywords with in-depth search statistics are provided in the free version
- Ability to analyze websites of competitors
- Easy to use interface
